Today I’m gonna share with you 3 pretty unusual reasons why you probably can not lose weight. I get this question all the time on my FB page. there are a lot of people coming up to me and saying “I’m eating clean, I’m training hard, but I’m just not seeing the pounds come off!”
So I took some time to dive into my own life and also to do a bunch of research to make this article for you. You’ll be surprised by these 3 unusual reasons why you can not lose weight! If you just make a slight change into your life, I’m pretty sure that you’re gonna see some big results.
3 Reasons Why You Can Not Lose Weight
I decided to share these unusual reasons why you can not lose weight with you so let’s go ahead and get started!
1. You’re Stressed Out
When you’re stressed out you tend to eat lots of really bad food. Think about school finals time. You’re super worried and just wanna eat junk food. I know because I did back there in finals time. Thank goodness that is over!
The more stress you’re under, the more cortisol you have, and the more bad food you wanna crave. Cortisol is a stress hormone and when you have a higher amount of the stress hormone in your body, it’s also an appetite stimulant, you’re just gonna want to eat more.
And as if this it wasn’t bad enough, also increases the production of a brain chemical called Neuropeptide Y, which specifically increases your cravings for carbs. Even if you are doing really well not eating sweets and all the bad food, just by having more cortisol in your body, this slows down your metabolism.
Increase in cortisol is directly related to muscle degradation and the extra storage of lower belly fat. So the more stress you’re under, the more lower belly fat you have. It’s insane!
So try to hang with people that make you happy, try to exercise because all these things will keep those cortisol levels down.
2. You Don’t Sleep Enough
When you’re not sleeping enough, your levels of cortisol increase, so that’s a bad thing, and your levels of growth hormone decrease. Growth hormone has the opposite effect of cortisol:
- growth hormone encourages fat loss;
- it helps to keep the immune system up, so you don’t get sick;
- it keeps your organs functioning properly.
Sleep also bounces the hormones that control hunger. So if you ever go to sleep feeling hungry, and you wake up the next day and you’re not anymore, that’s why! On the flip side, if you miss a night sleep, then you’re more likely to eat more calories the next day.
The suggesting amount of sleep is 7-9 hours a day, but everyone’s different and I’m still working on my sleep. 🙂 But really, try to work on your rest, not only for those reasons, but also so that your muscles can regenerate, relax and so that they can grow.
3. You Don’t Drink Enough Water
I know I tell you this all the time, but I’m not just saying it so that you can fill your belly and won’t feel hungry. No!
When you’re dehydrated, your kidneys are no longer functioning properly. So then your body has to resort to the liver to help you remove those extra toxins. The problem is that your liver is a fat metaboliser, so now that it’s working double hard, it doesn’t have time to work on burning off that fat. So it ends up storing the fat and your metabolism slows down.
Also, if you’re eating healthier, you’re probably eating more fiber too, which is great. But you should also be increasing your water intake. Trust me, do it, or else you’re gonna get so constipated. Once you’re constipated you feel bloated, and then you feel lethargic and this is just a terrible situation. The reason why that happens is that fiber access a bulking agent or a sponge, and travels down your intestines grabbing toxins along the way. This is great, but not so great if there’s not water to push it down, so that you can eliminate.
So guys, drink water! I drink about 2-3 liters per day, depending on my activities. If you don’t know how much water you should drink, basically drink until your pee is clear. Keep a bottle on your desk at work, at school, in the car, wherever you’re going.
