How To Avoid Stains On Your Teeth
Here are 11 tips and recommendations that will help you avoid stains on your teeth and properly clean them:
1. Brush Your Teeth After Eating
Each time you eat it leaves particles on your teeth. Some of these particles are likely to stain them.
Because of this, try and brush your teeth after each meal. This will remove the particles from your teeth so there is a much smaller chance of them getting stained.
2. Strawberries And Baking Soda
If you mix both strawberries and baking soda it becomes a natural teeth whitener. Although you may think the red from the strawberries will stain your teeth, it does the opposite.
If you want to use baking soda as toothpaste, that’s a great idea too; make sure to only use it once per week though. This is an easy, cheap, and natural whitener.
3. Rinse Your Mouth Often
If you are not able to brush your teeth after each meal, it’s important that you at least rinse your mouth out. Although it won’t get each spot in your mouth like a toothbrush would, it still will get a lot of the food particles out.
You can also do this throughout the day if you have been drinking any coffee, sugary soda, or juice.
4. Don’t Press Too Hard
Many people will associate trying hard and using more strength with getting clean. This is not true though.
Don’t think that you should be pressing hard in order to get cleaning teeth when you are brushing. Always press lightly.
5. Use A Straw
Using a straw minimizes the amount of contact the beverage has on your teeth, as the straw sits behind your teeth.
This is a great idea if you are drinking anything with sugar in it, especially soda.
Mouthwash is a great way to keep stains away, especially if you pick up the right kind. Some mouthwashes have stain-catching plaque and will help to whiten your teeth. So choose a good one and use it daily.
7. Bleaching Kit
Going through your dentist is a much better idea that picking one up at the drugstore because they can give you specific recommendations based on your needs.
Although your answer is that you want whiter teeth, since the dentist knows your teeth, they can tell you if it’s a good idea or which ones to avoid for specific reasons. Whether those reasons are that they are not good for you or that you already have sensitive teeth so try and avoid this type, it’s great knowledge to have.
8. Drink Water
Water is not only healthy for your entire body, but it’s great for your teeth and gums too.
The reason people get bad breath is that there is not enough saliva inside the mouth. Water helps create saliva and wash down any particles that are left on your teeth.
If you are drinking coffee in the morning, try having water in between sips to lessen the staining that can occur from coffee. We all know coffee is one of the main reasons why people get stained teeth. This little trick will help to prevent the staining.
9. Wear A Mouthguard
Although this may seem like it has nothing to do with staining, it does. If you play any competitive sports, it’s important that you wear a mouthguard.
This is because without one it can damage your teeth and lead to aging. This will in return increase the yellowing of your teeth since they have aged more.
Be sure to have your mouthguard in if you are apart of any contact sports.
10. Whitening Toothpaste
There are many kinds of toothpaste out there that not only help to prevent staining but will help make your teeth whiter.
Make sure to ask your dentist or do your research about which type you want to buy. Some whitening tubes of toothpaste can erode your tooth enamel and cause more harm than good.
11. All In One Visit
If you have an event coming up that you want results quickly, there is a way. A dentist can use a concentrated carbamide peroxide product that will work in as short as one hour.
The downsides to this are that it is not cheap, and it can leave your teeth feeling more sensitive since the process happened so quickly.
The positives are that it is still safe and will give you the results you are looking for in just one visit.
Just like many changes in life, don’t expect a miracle to happen overnight, it takes time. If you stick to using these products and making these small changes daily, you will notice the stains start to lesson on your teeth.
It’s also a great idea to start changing what you are consuming if you don’t want the stains to get any worth.
