An apple a day keeps the doctor away. We’ve heard it said but is it true? What are the real health benefits of apples? Here are 10 reasons to eat apples every day:
1. Prevent Lung Cancer
One of the most astounding things about apples is that they’ve been shown in a lot of different research to significantly improve people’s health and decrease their risk of developing lung cancer.
2. Improve Respiratory Health
Another wonderful thing about apples is that they improve respiratory health. In fact, apples have been shown to decrease asthmatic symptoms in children who consume apples regularly. Mother who consume a significant amount of apples during pregnancy are less likely to have children with asthma.
3. Help With Weight Loss
Apples can significantly help with weight loss. People who consume an apple about 15 to 20 minutes before a meal actually eat 15% fewer calories. Also people who consume apples on a regular basis eat less and have more success with different dieting regimens.
4. Fight Heart Diseases
Apples also have great cardiovascular benefits. This is due in part to the fact that they can lower cholesterol, also because of the water soluble fiber. So if you have heart problems in your family, apples would be a really great thing to add into your diet.
You don’t get the same benefits from drinking apple juice or eating applesauce, so go eat a whole apple because a lot of its nutrients are found only in the skin.
5. Improve Digestive System
Extracts from apple skins have been found to significantly reduce the risk of developing colon cancer and liver cancer. So improving the health of the digestive system is another great benefit of eating these fruits.
6. Apples Fight Diabetes
Apples have also been shown to be very beneficial for people with diabetes or pre-diabetes. There are a couple different components in apples that not only help to regulate the amount of glucose absorption, but stimulate the pancreas to release more insulin.
So if you are having concerns of diabetes or if you’re somebody who’s constantly eating a lot of refined sugar, it will be a great start for you to add more apples into your diet.

Apples are also very efficient at improving bone health. The flavonoids found in apples are very good at increasing bone density and improving conditions like osteoporosis. Apples also contain boron which is another element that’s great for bone health.

Apples have also been shown to help in prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and other degenerative diseases like that. The phytonutrients, polyphenols and anti-oxidants that are found in apples are very good at protecting cells from that kind of free radical damage that can cause Alzheimer’s disease.
So apples are going to be definitely a great thing to add into our diet as we’re getting older.

Another fabulous thing about apples is that they have been shown to lower cholesterol. The pectin in apples reduces the levels of LDL (bad cholesterol) in the blood and are very effective at helping people control their cholesterol levels when they’re consuming somewhere from 1 to 3 per day.
10. Reduce Risk Of Developing Breast Cancer
Researchers at Cornell University found that rats who were fed one apple per day had a 17% reduced risk of developing breast cancer and rats that were fed 3 apples per day had a 39% decrease in their risk of developing breast cancer.
So apples are also a wonderful thing to incorporate into your diet if breast cancer is maybe runs in your family or is a concern for you.
