My Favourite Paleo Fats For Healthy Cooking

My Favourite Paleo Fats For Healthy Cooking

Today we’re gonna talk about one of my favourite topics: paleo fats –  the delicious, part of the healthy diet, highly satiated fat. But not all fats are created equal, so I’m gonna talk a little about some of my favourite paleo fats to use in the kitchen. Maybe I’ll give you some ideas of new ones to try.

My Favourite Paleo Fats

1. Ghee

Ghee is a type of clarified butter used in Indian cooking. It smells like “victory”, here’s no other way to describe it 🙂

Some people are sensitive to dairy proteins and have removed them from the cooking process. So if you want that buttery flavour but you’re sensitive to dairy, ghee is the way to go.

Ghee has a very high smoke point. So if you wanna cook things at a very high temperature the ghee will be in the top of the paleo fats list for high temperature cooking aplications.

So remember: use ghee for high temperature cooking or if you are sensitive to diary proteins.

2. Coconut oil

Coconut oil is amazing! So virgin, unrefined and organic will be the best choices there.

I think coconut oil is pretty versatile. You can drizzle it over the veggies before they go in the oven, cook with it at relatively high temperature. Although if the temperature is really high, ghee is my choice. And since coconut oil is semi-solid, its smoking point will be a little higher than some of the other paleo fats.

Not to mention that coconut oil does all kinds of amazing things:

  • it’s great as a hear conditioner;
  • it’s amazing as a moisturizer;
  • it’s great to take off makeup;
  • it actually makes a really good toothpaste with a little bit baking soda and maybe a couple drops of peppermint oil.

3. Olive oil

Olive oil is one of the paleo fats that have been around in kind of popular health fields for a while. The thing with olive oil is that since it has polyunsaturated fatty acids, it’s a liquid at room temperature, it’s a little more pro to acid oxidation and break down at high temperature.

So I tried to stick with olive oil when I’m doing in a very low heat cooking or I wanna drizzle it over veggies after they cooked or maybe I wanna make a dressing with it.

So try to stick to high quality because not all olive oils are created equal and some of them contain very cheap filler oils.

4. Tallow

Paleo fats like tallow are good for high temperature cooking. Like when you cook some sweet potato french fries and want to get that really rich flavour.

There are so many paleo fats like duck fat, pig fat that you could include into your paleo diet and try to rotate between them. But as always quality matters, in especialy for talking about an animal source of fat.
