Depression is a really serious disease that affects a lot of people across the world. The good thing is you can alleviate depression naturally with the help of these 4 foods.

If untreated, depression can lead to a number of painful consequences including social isolation, drug addiction and even suicide.

The problem is that the scientific community still doesn’t really have a good idea of what the cause of depression actually is. And so there isn’t really a pill you can take to make it go away permanently.

Today I want to talk about some of my favorite foods that help alleviate depression naturally:

1. Avocado

This tasty fruit is full of all sorts of essential macro and micronutrients that your body needs to function correctly. So it’s a really good choice if you want to neutralize any possible symptoms of depression.

Some of these nutrients include vitamins B, C, K as well as E-12. Not to mention that it is super-high in both fiber and monosaturated fat.

This makes avocado a great food solution even for people suffering from heart disease and high cholesterol.

2. Chocolate

Everyone loves chocolate, but most people who try to hold on to a healthy diet tend to avoid it as much as possible because of its high sugar content.

In this case, it’s a good idea to munch on a bit of dark chocolate if you’re feeling depressed but don’t want to pack on the pounds.

You see, a recent study has actually proven that eating dark chocolate can increase the amount of the feel-good hormone serotonin within the brain. So eating dark chocolate can lead to a feeling of calmness and well-being.

What’s great about green tea when it comes to depression, however, is that it contains quite a fair amount of the amino acid known as theanine.

Theanine has been proven to have a potent anti-stress effect on the body. This is why you might experience a certain feeling of calmness after having a cup of green tea.

Try to get into the habit of having green tea instead of coffee when you have breakfast. It still contains caffeine to wake you up, but it won’t make you jumpy and nervous like having too much coffee often can.

4. Walnuts

Nuts are a great source of many nutrients that our bodies simply don’t get enough of nowadays, especially since everyone is munching on fast food so much.

Of course I’m primarily talking about the Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. These are incidentally the only fats our bodies cannot synthesize on their own.

Ironically enough, they’re also very important for maintaining proper brain function. So a deficit in either of them can possibly contribute to a condition such as depression.
