What You Can Do If You Want To Wake Up Early Regularly

It’s no secret that successful people wake up early. The secret, however, seems to be: how on earth do they do it? Well, it turns out you don’t need to be some superhuman in order to resist the temptation of hitting snooze. In fact, waking up early is a habit, just like waking up late, except one of these two requires a little more discipline- can you guess which one?

Let’s take a look at what you can do if you want to wake up early regularly and feel like you’ve accomplished more in a day.

How To Wake Up Early

1. Drop The Morning Stereotypes

As with everything worthwhile in life, little habits that help you be successful start with your mind. If you’re like me you’ve probably lived most of your life thinking that morning people must be the spawns of the devil and that you will never ever be a morning person.

Well it’s this sort of attitude that perpetuates the idea that people who wake up early must have some superpower.  If you think about it, there’s nothing that makes 6 am worse than 9 am or 11 am. We feel tired not because of the actual time on the clock, but because we are not getting enough sleep. Which takes me to point number 2.

2. Early To Bed, Early To Rise

Well the truth is that if morning people do have a superpower, they probably call it “going to bed earlier”. Getting enough sleep is not rocket science. If you’re tired, sleep a bit longer and try to sleep a bit better. And it doesn’t have to feel like jumping in cold water when you change your lifestyle, with shocks and minutes of “why am I doing this to myself”. It can be a slow and comfortable transition. If you usually go to sleep at 2 am, try going to bed at 1.30am for a week. Then the next week, make it 1, or 12.30. Of course you will need a few days of getting used to this, and you might lie in bed awake a bit longer than usual- don’t let these first days discourage you! Remember you are changing habits that you’ve formed over years and it’s normal to have some sort of getting-used-to-this-thing period.

3. Never Gonna Give You Up, Never Gonna Let You Snooze!

So now that you have this masterpiece of a song stuck in your head, let’s talk about some other sounds you don’t want to hear on repeat: your alarm clock! Every morning it should ring once, and only once. You will have to go military-camp on yourself regarding this, because this is not negotiable. If you can’t help but hit the snooze button, move your clock away from you- literally across the room, to force you to get up. Once you get up, do NOT lie back down, or you will never learn how to wake up early.

4. Find An Alarm That Fits You

The last thing your alarm should do is making you start off your day by planning a killing spree because of how annoying the first seconds of the day were. So if you want to wake up early you must make sure that you minimize the chances of hating mornings. So pick an alarm that you like, that is easy to hear but not annoying, and avoid very loud and high pitched sounds. Just a small tip: don’t have your favorite song as your alarm tone, because you will end up hating it within days.
