Asian Diet Tips To Follow For A Healthy Lifestyle

Asian Diet Tips To Follow For A Healthy Lifestyle

Today we’re gonna going through something that I find really interesting, and that is the diet secrets of Asia or Asian diet tips if you want. Japanese women in particular are very well known for the diets that keep them slim.

In countries like Japan is incredibly important to stay slim. Companies actually have policies where they will measure your waistline every year and if you are over a certain “healthy waistline” they put you in sort of probation program and help you get back on track. I guess is a way for the Guvernment to combat higher health cost later on from obesity.

I’ve always asked myself how could everyone be so skinny in Japan or China? Well, in Japan women are not afraid to tell each other when they’re overweight. Here is different: you don’t wanna be rude and you don’t wanna tell them “hey you’re overweight”. They are really open there and the culture is very different.

Top 10 Asian diet tips

But let’s learn something from this different culture, something like these 10 great Asian diet tips.

1. Drink green tea

There are so many benefits that green teas have that’s beyong just losing weight:

  • Green tea is full of antioxidants.
  • It increases your metabolism. A faster metabolism allows you to burn more calories and it’s keeping your engine running efficiently.
  • Can burn an extra 70 to 80 calories per day.
  • It helps to keep you young (it keeps the wrinkles from coming) with its anti-aging benefits.

You can get green tea in a variety of forms like in a tea bag, tea leaves or little balls.

The best time to drink green tea is before a meal, during a meal and after a meal 🙂 Yes, you can drink tea all the time.

2. Eat soup

The Asian diet tip number 2 is to always have soup with your meal. The good thing about the soup is that not only is super healthy and low in calories, but it also fills you up a little bit before you start eating your main meal.

I’m not sure if you had Chinese soup before but this is made out of pork bones or chicken feet. Best thing about these kind of soups is that are super cheap to make. It’s really good for you, it has a lot of minerals in it from the bones.

But if you don’t like bones soup you can just choose for a miso soup which come in packets these days. The only thing about miso soup is that it might be very high in sodium which isn’t good for you in a long run. So maibe it’s better for you to make your own miso soup with a little bit less salt.

3. Eat veggies

I’m sure you noticed that when you look at japanese cuisine, chinese cuisine and also korean cuisine, you see that it’s very low in meat and very high in vegetables. A traditional korean family diet is mainly made up on rice and vegetables, not that much meat.

Low calorie vegetables that are very predominant in the Asian cuisine are: cabbage, chinese greens (like bok choy and choi sum), lettuce, radish, spinach. Steaming your vegetables with a little bit of oil keeps the calories down as well.

4. Use the right utencils

How much food do you fit in your mouth with the fork or with the spoon? Enough I would say. But compare that with eating with chopsticks. which makes it more difficult to eat a lot of food in a short period of time.

So grabbing food with chopsticks make you eat a little more slower, which is a great thing for your metabolism.

5. Eat untill you are 80% full

In japanese culture is an old saying:

Hara hachi bu.

That just means to eat until you’re 80% full. This is something that has been passed out in Japan from generation to generation and it’s a great habbit to get into. You should try too!

6.  Switch from white rice to brown rice

Eat brown rice or multigrain rice instead of the usual white rice. Don’t you know what the multigrain rice is? Well it is really popular in Korea right now. It has a purple color because there are mixed a lot of different grains within the brown rice. This multigrain rice reduces the carbs intake, is low in calories and keeps you full for longer.

7. Eat small portions

Japanese are serving foods in a way that’s so beautiful that you actually enjoy and savor your food. If you look at the way that they create lunchboxes you’ll see that everything is segmented beautifully and presented so well, so you can just savor the meal. This is one of the greatest Asian diet tips: control your portions just by using smaller plates, is that easy.

8. Eat fruits for dessert

Eat fruits instead of icecream or cake. The most common dessert served in every traditional chinese or japanese restaurant is actually fruit. So we should borrow this habit when we’re eat at home too.

9. Eat fish and seafood

If you look at the japanese diet in particular you’ll see that it has a high emphasis on eating different types of fish and seafood. You’ll find that eating fish is great for you especially if you want to lose weight because is very low in calories. Also another tip ( not really Asian diet tips) is to replace red meat with white meat (especially turkey) and you’ll find that there will be a big difference in your diet.

10. Eat Asian snacks

First of all, asian snacks are a lot smaller than ours. Instead of a 150g large pack of chips, there are 60g or 90g packs. Some of their favourite snacks are sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and dried fruit.

The most important thing when you want to be fit is to develop a healthy lifestyle. If you develop a healthy eating habit, losing weight would not be a challenge and neither would maintaining your weight. The only challenge when you try to lose weight is to break out of your bad habits of eating processed and junked foods.
